03/05/2012
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has revised the 2011 International education revenue figures, increasing them from $13.9bn to $15.1bn.
The revised figures are reflective of new fee information from the Federal Education Department. This information has been used in conjunction with new student estimates from the Immigration Department.
International education is Brisbane’s largest export industry, earning over $2.27 billion (course fees) in 2010 calendar year plus $4 billion in downstream spending. In the same year over 80,000 international students in total studied in Brisbane and are responsible for 13,900 jobs in the Brisbane economy.
A recent study completed by the National Institute for Economic and Industrial Research has identified that each international student attracted to Brisbane injects on average $140,000 into the Brisbane economy during their stay here.
