Warm up in The City
01/06/2012
Our southern counterparts may shudder through the Winter months but The City will mark the season embracing the outdoors with special events, food and retail offers.
There’s an entertainment program that will see Queenslanders celebrate (not shun!) the outdoors throughout the months of June and July. The City is a key venue for delectable Brisbane – a major showcase of food and wine producers and purveyors; the world’s largest free international music event ‘Fete de la Musique’; and Australia’s biggest open air ice skating rink housed at King George Square, part of The Winter Festival.
The list of events goes on, with a chance to meet the Qantas Wallabies at the Queen Street Mall Stage and London Olympic celebrations.
With the winter holidays approaching there’s a range of boredom busters to satisfy everyone. From high teas and delicious coffee for mum and dad to Strike Bowling and Event Cinemas for the kids, not to mention GoMA, the State Library or the Queensland Museum just a stroll across the river. Or make the most of the winter sunshine and explore The City Botanic Gardens.
If food is the fancy, The City restaurants will be rolling out their delicious winter menus. Some of Brisbane’s best chefs are cooking up innovative faire sure to satisfy at any time of the day. The late night food offerings are continuing to grow with Grill’d, Wagamama and Hanaichi serving up till all hours on Friday and Saturday nights.
The newly opened Wintergarden is ready to explore and there’ll be a host of retail openings with Salvatore Ferragamo to join QueensPlaza, and Zegna to join the high fashion set on Edward St. The City boasts the State’s largest collection of in-season Winter fashion.
The City is home to over 4,000 businesses, five vibrant shopping precincts, 700 local and international retailers, over 200 thriving restaurants and bars, and plays host to more than 1,000 events per year. The City offers thousands of car spaces and is the transport hub of Brisbane.
